Social Action

Women’s Homelessness Initiative

The Women’s Homelessness Initiative is coordinated through the Capitol Hill United Ministries (CHUM).

This is a group of churches in the Denver, Capitol Hill and Park Hill neighborhoods, working with the St. Francis Center to create a system of overnight sanctuary of warmth, hospitality and safety each night for up to 25 women who are homeless.
We offer overnight shelter on Wednesday nights in even numbered months in the church social hall. (February, April, June, August, October, December)

  • Set up: 5:00 PM
  • Help prepare and serve dinner (for 25) and hospitality from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Prepare 25 breakfast bags
  • Stay overnight (women only), 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
  • Clean up on Thursday morning, 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Wash and fold linens; return them to the church. Cost is covered.

Saturday Lunch Program

Every Saturday from September through May, a lunch is provided for our guests in our Social hall. It’s an opportunity for people with limited resources to enjoy a good meal and fellowship.

10:30 Catholic Community provides the lunch on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM.

Senior Support Services

10:30 Catholic Community volunteers to serve a meal at the Senior Support Services every fifth Monday.  Senior Support Services is a day shelter serving homeless and low-income seniors in the Denver area.
Dinners are provided on weekday evenings by a consortium of churches.  At 10:30 AM a team of 6-8 volunteers work together to feed 80-90 people.  The team has a standing menu, prepares the food in advance and brings it to the center ready to serve.
Time commitment at the center is from 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM in addition to meal preparation.
